Fun in the Sun and Protect Your Skin

The Fourth of July is this week already! I think it is safe to say that summer is finally here. Us Minnesotans love to talk and complain about the weather—don’t we?  It has been a cold May and June—we did not like that. Now the heat is on the horizon, we will complain about that too. The heat and sun can take a toll on our skin. Did you know your skin is your largest organ? With that being said, it is important to keep our skin and our kid’s skin safe from the sun.  Here is how I go about protecting our skin:

Hats for Days
We will not spend a day on the lake or at the pool without a hat. Hats that work great for my kids are the trucker style hats. The mesh ventilation keeps them cool and the big bill keeps their face protected. L.L. Bean and Patagonia have stylish ones for you and your kids. I wear a wide brim straw hat from Target. My husband Matt, typically wears a visor because he can’t’ find hats that fit is head—ha!

Sunscreen
We are all aware of the sunscreen dilemma—the ingredients. Finding one that is effective yet not full of toxic ingredients can be tricky. I am a FIRM believer in finding a sunscreen that protects you from the sun. Our go-to brands are Babyganics, Sun Bum, and Neutrogena. I do not know if these are the most perfect sunscreens but they work—no one breaks out from them and they are budget friendly. I am always open for new suggestions—leave a comment if you have a sunscreen that work for you!

Cover up!
If I am not swimming in the water, I have a cover up on and towels over my shoulders. I even wear mostly one pieces to keep covered—just kidding I wear them because they are stylish and flattering for my mom bod.  My kids will always have their swim shirts on, these are the best things ever—we can’t have enough.

How do you protect your skin from the sun?
